Photographer William H. Jordan was born in Black Hawk Hollow, Kanawha County, West Virginia on September 19, 1886. He later lived in Hawks Nest and Ansted, West Virginia, eventually moving to Cleveland, Ohio where he operated “Jordan’s Studio” for over fifty-two years.

The William Harvey Jordan collection is a primary component of the permanent exhibit of the African American Heritage Family Tree Museum.
The exhibit is a display of the life and photographic work of African American photographer William Harvey Jordan. The collection contains over 1,000 negatives and photographs as well as Mr. Jordan’s personal diaries, his Krona View 8×10 Studio Camera and camera stand, his posing stool and various other two- and three-dimensional artifacts.
